I woke up at 5:00 a.m. and looked out the window to see that the sun was already beginning to rise.

The sunrise was coming from a direction much farther north than I had expected, so I checked the direction and time of sunrise and sunset: in Tokyo, it was 60° at 4:25 a.m.

At 60°, it is exactly east-northeast.

Incidentally, sunset is at 7:00 p.m. and 300°, which is west-northwest.

At this time of year, sunrise and sunset are shifted this far north.

These times and directions apply only today and tomorrow; on the summer solstice, sunrise will be at 4:26 a.m., so these three days are, so to speak, the true summer solstice.

More precisely, for several days after the summer solstice, sunrise becomes later, while sunset is at 7:01 p.m., and remains so for several days.

Normally, the rainy season would have begun long ago, and it is difficult to catch a glimpse of the sun around the summer solstice, but being able to see the sun at this time of year makes me very happy.

It is the same every year, but the bright season is wonderful.
