Paintings at Yahata Sushi

Do you enjoy paintings?

There are many different styles, such as Impressionism, Realism, and Abstract art. The fifth-generation owner does not really understand where the boundaries lie between them, but having paintings and other works of art in one’s daily life certainly enriches the spirit.

Yahata Sushi also has several paintings and other works displayed inside the restaurant, which we would like to introduce here.

First, a painting perfectly suited to a sushi restaurant.

This is a work by the painter Toranosuke Takahashi. We understand that the fourth-generation owner received it from a relative of Mr. Takahashi.

Next is a work by the painter Seiji Saito, featuring a large fish.

Mr. Saito is the owner of Hair Salon Saito, a barbershop in Ichigaya that the fifth-generation owner and Yuya frequent.

We received this work when he held a solo exhibition in Ginza some time ago, and its slightly pop feel is wonderfully soothing.

Another work by Mr. Saito is inspired by the Miracle Lone Pine of the Great East Japan Earthquake.

We displayed it because we felt that the pine stretching straight toward the sky and the powerful sun would not only lift the spirits of those who see it, but also brighten the atmosphere of the restaurant.

Another painting is now displayed in the fifth-generation owner’s home, though it hung in the restaurant for many years.

It was a gift from Tu, a dear friend in Vietnam, and depicts Hoan Kiem Lake in Hanoi.

It is a remarkably three-dimensional painting, created using a special technique, or so we are told.

It is said to be the work of a renowned Vietnamese painter.

There is also another painting by Toranosuke Takahashi, which is sometimes displayed in place of the painting of a spiny lobster.

There is rarely time to take in art at leisure, but perhaps that is precisely why art, including painting, is necessary in our busy daily lives.
