At this time of year, the words “The passing years, too, are travelers” come to mind.

Now, as the New Year approaches after beginning with the New Year’s holiday and passing through the four seasons, we look back upon the months and days that have gone by as bōnen—“forgetting the year”—and look ahead to the year that will come around again as bōnen—“looking toward the year.”

What kind of year will next year be?
