Enjoying Hydrangeas

According to the news, the large meander of the Kuroshio Current may come to an end this year.

Perhaps because of that, May was unusually pleasant in recent years, and even now that June has arrived, there seem to be quite a few fairly comfortable days.

On the other hand, the rainy season seems to have begun early, and these days the hydrangeas look especially beautiful.

Today, I had a long lunch break, so I went to nearby Kansenen Park to see them.

It was a drizzly afternoon, so there were very few people in the park. Thanks to that, I was able to take my time and enjoy the beautiful hydrangeas.

I have heard that hydrangea flower colors change depending on the nature of the soil in which they grow, but I wonder why even those growing in almost the same spot can differ in color.

Snails are synonymous with rainy days, but unfortunately I did not spot any that day…

About a month ago, the woods at Kansenen were the bright green of fresh new foliage. Perhaps because it was overcast, but they are now thickly overgrown.

It is a very, very small wood, and the trees are not cedars, but being in this grove brings to mind Rentarō Taki's "Hakone Hachiri."

“Even at noon, the avenue of cedars remains dark.”

Humming it to myself, I walked along the slippery little path and finished my lunchtime stroll.
