Speaking of Autumn Fruits
It is the fruitful autumn season, when the sky is high and horses grow fat.
There are firm Shine Muscat grapes, large and fluffy chestnuts (though the fifth-generation owner prefers Mont Blanc made with chestnuts), and above all, my favorite autumn fruit is the pear.
Its crisp texture and sweet, juicy flavor are full of the feeling of the season.
The pear in the photo was a gift from a guest the other day. It is a Niitaka pear, a variety said to have been harvested in Kamagaya, Chiba.
This Niitaka pear is so enormous that it is quite surprising.
It does not even fit in the palm of your hand!
But being large does not mean that its flavor is bland.
As I mentioned earlier, it is exceptionally juicy and has a wonderfully rich flavor.
I kept slicing and eating, slicing and eating, and before I knew it, I had eaten about half of it.
Fruit lovingly grown with all the farmers’ heart and soul.
Japanese fruit truly is delicious!
