A New Champion Is Born!

Ryuto Shiokawa, the fighter who has appeared several times on this blog, has now become a champion.

He claimed victory in the RISE lightweight title match held at Korakuen Hall on April 26, prevailing after a grueling six-round battle—five rounds plus an extra round!

With his father, who serves as his cornerman,

Shiokawa appeared to have the upper hand from the early stages, but the decision after five rounds was a draw.

Perhaps the judging is tough on challengers…

Of course, he waved to the ring girls, too. ^^

But naturally, his opponent, Masahito Okuyama, is also an extremely strong fighter, making this a match that truly deserves to be called a battle to the death.

In the sixth and extra round, however, Shiokawa unleashed a fierce rush and, while he was unable to secure a KO, earned a 3–0 decision victory.

An overwhelming victory that left no room for complaint.

And in that moment, a new champion was born.

Congratulations!!

The energy of the support this time was remarkable, too.

Every fighter has supporters, of course, but Shiokawa's supporters were clearly the most passionate—and the loudest—of the entire event.

After the match, we waited outside the building so that all the supporters could offer their congratulations when Shiokawa appeared.

Yet he seemed completely nonchalant, as though he had not just been in a match at all.

Shiokawa appeared after changing into casual clothes. What a radiant expression he had.

Proudly wearing the championship belt over his shoulder,

What an extraordinary person he is.

Normally, after winning such a fierce battle, one's face would be flushed and one would still be excited, but he looked utterly cool and composed.

He is the real deal.

It was particularly memorable to see him smiling as he responded to the congratulatory words from all the supporters who had gathered.

He receives congratulations from Kenichi Yoshizumi, Mayor of Shinjuku City.

Another reassuring supporter: Miki Yamada, a member of the House of Representatives. She waved a cheering towel and called out loudly throughout the match.

Now, as champion, please continue striving onward toward even greater heights!!

The fifth-generation owner was also welcomed into the group.

For the fifth-generation owner, this was his first time cheering at a match since Shooto fighter Junji Sarumaru's bout.

It is wonderful to have a fighter to cheer for with all your heart. ^^v
